Tips to Healthy Summer Skin

June 16, 2017

Summer is just around the corner and many of us will be taking advantage of the beautiful weather. From road trips to outdoor festivals to barbecues with friends, what’s not to love about summer? To ensure your summer is every bit as amazing as you want it to be, we’ve got some top tips on keeping your skin healthy.

  • Don’t forget your sunscreen – Using sunscreen is of paramount importance especially after a tattoo removal. Apply a generous amount and choose SPF 30 or higher. The higher the SPF, the greater the protection. You should reapply sunscreen every two hours and don’t overlook sensitive spots, such as the back of your legs, nose, lips, and ears.  Most importantly, because the skin is very sensitive after a tattoo removal, you need to protect that area from sun exposure and avoid burns at all costs.
  • Stay hydrated – Drinking lots of water during the warm summer months is an essential part of healthy skin.  It's easy to become dehydrated in the heat, especially if you are exercising as well.  Keep a water bottle close at hand and sip thoughout the day.  It is recommended that you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, and more if you are in a hot environment.
  • Eat your fruits and veggies –  Fruits and veggies are chock full of antioxidants and are important  to incorporate into your diet. Foods high in beta-carotene, vitamin C and vitamin A help cell repair and keep your skin looking healthy and young.  Blueberries, oranges, strawberries, spinach and kale are amazing good-for-you foods!
  • Get active – There is no better time to get active than during the summer months. You don’t have to be restricted to the gym. You can enjoy the beautiful outdoors, from taking a bike ride to enjoying a walk. Exercise increases blood flow to all organs of your body, including your skin.  The increased blood flow means more oxygen gets delivered to your skin and helps keep it nourished and healthy.

Remembering these tips means that no matter what your plans are for the summer, you can enjoy it without doing harm to your skin – and look and feel great at the end of it!

Tattoo ink exists deep below the first layer of skin. In order to reach all of the ink in the skin, multiple treatments are needed to break up the ink in layers. The size, depth, and color of the inked area is also a factor in the number of treatments needed. In your consultation, our Seattle Tattoo Removal Master Aesthetician will be able to give you greater insight as to what your tattoo removal treatments will entail.

Patients who have received tattoo removal treatments with the Cutera enlighten laser compare the sensation to having a rubber band snapped against their skin. Not bad, right? But even better: Sound Tattoo Removal operates within Sound Vascular under the direction of a Medical Doctor. That means that unlike most tattoo removal centers, we can offer most patients lidocaine, a topical anesthetic to numb your skin. While your tattoo is being removed, you'll barely feel a thing.

Many patients report some redness and swelling. It doesn’t last long, and you can go about your normal work and family life immediately after treatment and throughout the process.
